Data Retention Workshop

Meta Data Retention is a hot topic in the telecommunications industry at the moment. The poorly crafted legislation is creating a compliance and implementation nightmare for Carriers, CSPs, ISPs and anyone else that might be caught in the middle. With a looming implementation deadline, and an even sooner requirement to submit implementation plans many affected organisations are unsure of where to start or how to meet their requirements.

Real World Technology Solutions, in conjunction with Dell Australia, is hosting a Meta Data Retention workshop on 28th July, with guest speaker David Ohri, Senior Associate from Thomson Geer. David is a lawyer who has spent way to much of the last few months looking at and working with the Data Retention legislation, and so has a real world legal and practical understanding when it comes to the day to day issues we face with managing this implementation.

David will provide an overview of the Data Retention legislation, focusing on how the legislation impacts service providers - with a real focus on what we need to do (as we best understand it at the moment). After lunch we will have a Data Retention Implementation Plan (DRIP) workshop where we will pick some common services and discuss real world examples of what data we need to retain and look at the technical aspects of how we extract, reduce and store this data, and prepare the skeleton of an implementation plan for these services.

Dell will also provide us with an opportunity to look at some of the latest Dell Storage and Data Centre technologies - in particular looking at how some of their hardware and solutions can assist with processing, storing and encrypting an ever-increasing volume of (meta)data.
